YouTube announced the launch of a new feature that allows users to set a daily limit on viewing Shorts videos. This decision is part of the company's broader initiative to support a healthy digital balance and responsible content consumption.

How it works

The feature is simple: users can independently set a time limit they are willing to spend scrolling through the Shorts feed during the day. Once this limit is exhausted, YouTube will automatically suspend access to the Shorts feed until the end of the day, displaying a corresponding message. This complements the platform's existing tools—such as sleep reminders or viewing pauses—and allows better control over time spent in the app.

Parental Control for Shorts

YouTube pays special attention to its younger audience. By the end of 2025, the company plans to add an option for parents to set a daily limit on viewing Shorts for children and teenagers using monitored accounts. This limit can be locked so it cannot be changed without adult permission.

The feature will begin rolling out on October 22, 2025, and will be available on mobile devices. YouTube notes that Shorts are an important part of the platform, but excessive scrolling can negatively impact users, so the new option helps maintain a balance between entertainment and real life.
