Urgent Windows 11 Update Fixes USB Bug from October Update
Microsoft has released an urgent update for Windows 11 to fix a critical error that emerged after the October 2025 patch (KB5066835). This bug caused USB keyboards and mice to stop working in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), used for diagnosing and repairing the system when it fails to boot.
Due to the lack of support for USB devices, users could not navigate the WinRE interface unless they had alternative input methods - for example, Bluetooth or PS/2. The issue affected versions of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, as well as Windows Server 2025.
To resolve the situation, Microsoft has released an emergency update KB5070773, which fully restores USB functionality in the recovery environment. It can already be installed via Windows Update or downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update catalog.
The company emphasizes that the problem did not affect regular Windows sessions - USB devices worked correctly in them.
If you have not yet installed the update that fixes the problem and your Windows 11 is experiencing issues and fails to boot in normal mode - find a device that can be connected not via USB. If you do not have issues with your Windows 11 - it is better to update now so that there are no problems with system recovery in an emergency.
No issues with Windows 10 operation have been observed, likely because this OS did not receive the update containing this bug.
