Are Redmi K series budget flagships being canceled? The Chinese brand intends to bring the Turbo series to the forefront
In the wake of the recent release of the Redmi K90 series smartphones, Xiaomi has indicated a strategic shift in the positioning of the K lineup.
What is known
Last week, Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi K90 series, including the K90 Pro Max model with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, Bose acoustics, and the brand's first-ever 5X periscope lens.
At the presentation, Xiaomi's head Lu Weibing stated that the series of affordable Redmi K flagships would continue to develop for some time, but it will gradually be replaced by the more powerful Turbo series, which is positioned as a sub-flagship.
Redmi brand manager Sun Cun stated that “Turbo will gradually replace the K series and surprise everyone with performance and the price-to-effectiveness ratio.”
The Turbo lineup might receive more powerful chips, improved cameras, and premium features previously available only in the K series, while the price point remains lower. Redmi's main goal is to attract a younger audience and those who need a powerful smartphone without overpaying with the Turbo lineup.
