Recently, Warner Bros. Discovery officially confirmed its intentions to sell its assets.

Of course, the interest from potential buyers in Warner Bros. is due not so much to the film studio itself and its infrastructure, as to the rights to super popular franchises, as well as the HBO, CNN channels, and the DC Studios division.

The largest companies entered into negotiations with the media holding, it is known for sure about Paramount Skydance, Apple, Netflix, and Amazon, but Sony decided that Warner Bros. Discovery is not of interest to them.

What is known

Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki confirmed that his company does not plan major deals related to the American film industry.

At present, we do not plan to carry out major mergers and acquisitions in the film industry. We want to build a strong foundation in our key segments: anime and games.

Hiroki Totoki emphasized that the Japanese giant is currently focused on growing markets rather than aggressively acquiring brands. In his opinion, the greatest potential lies in the anime industry, whose global value is just beginning to grow.

At the same time, Sony is one of the leaders in the video game market and there were rumors earlier that the Japanese would not mind acquiring game studios owned by Warner Bros., which include NetherRealm, Rocksteady, TT Games, and Avalanche Software, known for the Mortal Kombat series, Injustice, Batman: Arkham, LEGO games, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Suppose that the deal regarding the Warner Bros. film segment is indeed not of interest to Sony, but something suggests that the Japanese company may show interest in the gaming divisions of the American holding.
