According to Czech media, in November Škoda Auto will begin phasing out the production of the MQ 200 manual gearbox. After that, European ICE models will only have automatic transmissions.

What is known

Škoda Trade Unionist, the union newspaper for Škoda Auto workers, reported on the company's plans to cease production of the five-speed and six-speed DQ 200 manual gearboxes. These gearboxes are installed on Škoda vehicles as well as models from other Volkswagen Group brands.

In 2024, Škoda Auto produced a total of over a million gearboxes, of which almost 355,000 were manual MQ 200s and nearly 711,000 were automatic DQ 200s (DSG 7) with dual clutch. In June last year, the car plant in Mladá Boleslav produced the nine-millionth MQ 200 gearbox.

Exact dates for stopping manual transmission production are not yet known. However, it is reported that the production volume of the MQ 200 at the Mladá Boleslav plant will decrease in November, and in January 2026, the third (night) shift will cease operation. According to sources, the Czech brand plans to transfer employees who still produce manual gearboxes at the central plant to the production of electric transmissions.

Meanwhile, the situation in Vrchlabí, where the DQ 200 gearboxes are produced, is stable, and the production volume is at a record-high level.
