Renault has unveiled the new electric car Twingo E-Tech. Although images of the model leaked online a couple of days before the presentation, more details are now known, including specifications.

What is known

The design of the new Twingo is reminiscent of the first generation model from 1992. It is compact (just 3.79 meters in length), designed exclusively for city driving and has a cute look thanks to its unique front daytime running lights.

Twingo is front-wheel drive. The power of the permanent magnet motor is 60 kW (81 hp), and the LFP battery capacity is 27.5 kWh. This is quite modest by modern standards, but still more than the first generation Nissan Leaf and the first iteration of the Volkswagen e-Golf. The range according to the WLTP cycle is 263 kilometers.

The electric motor was developed by Shanghai e-drive and has liquid cooling. The battery, in turn, is only air-cooled. This feature, along with the use of LFP cells, helps reduce the cost of the car. A heat pump is also not provided.

Charging is possible with alternating current up to 11 kW or direct current up to 50 kW. Although 50 kW isn't much, the small energy storage charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

The interior standard equipment includes a 7-inch instrument panel display and a 10-inch touch screen. They are also installed in the basic Evolution configuration, which lacks a navigation system. Route planning is done with a smartphone connected via CarPlay or Android Auto. The Techno version, for its part, provides Google services, dynamic charging planning and a voice assistant.

Twingo is exclusively a four-seater and five-door. The rear seats have longitudinal adjustments, and the front passenger seat can optionally fold down for transporting long items. The luggage volume varies from 305 to 966 liters according to the VDA standard.

The series production of the Renault Twingo Electric is organized in Slovenia. During development, special attention was paid to simplicity and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, the novelty is available only in the two aforementioned configurations and in four colors: yellow, red, green, and black. The combination of motor and battery will also remain unchanged.

Sales will begin in the first half of 2026. The starting cost is expected to be below the 20,000 euros mark.
