Amazon launches Kindle Translate: a service for translating books using AI
Amazon announced the launch of a new service, Kindle Translate—an AI-based tool designed to translate books by authors publishing through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).
What is known
The service is currently in beta version and supports translation from English to Spanish and German to English. In the future, Amazon plans to add more languages.
According to the company, less than 5% of books on Amazon are available in more than one language. Kindle Translate provides authors with the opportunity to expand their audience without the need to translate texts themselves or involve external resources.
At the same time, Amazon acknowledges that AI can be mistaken, so authors are allowed to preview the translation before publication. This feature is especially useful for those who are proficient in the translation language. For other authors, it may be necessary to involve a professional translator to review the results to ensure the quality of the text. Amazon does not disclose details on how the accuracy of the translation is checked, but notes that this process is automated.
The Kindle Translate service is currently available for free. According to Amazon, translated books can be added to other programs, including KDP Select, and are also included in the Kindle Unlimited subscription.
