Texas-based Celestis, known for its space burial services, announced the beginning of reservations for its largest mission — Mars300. The project aims to deliver cremated human remains and DNA samples into orbit around Mars. The mission is tentatively scheduled for launch in 2030.

What is known

Since 1997, the company has already conducted several flights and sent capsules with the ashes and DNA of deceased people and animals beyond Earth. Its latest mission used the new Vulcan Centaur rocket from United Launch Alliance. Although it is not yet determined which ship will deliver the payload, the most likely option is considered to be the Starship from SpaceX. The cost of participating in the mission is approximately $25,000, and reservations are now being accepted with a 10% prepayment.

Celestis notes that the Mars300 mission involves strict adherence to COSPAR's planetary protection protocols to preserve the Martian environment.

Last summer, The Exploration Company's Mission Possible capsule carrying Celestis Memorial Flights cargo fell into the Pacific Ocean and was lost because the parachute did not deploy.
