Mercedes-Benz has published photos of the new GLB. As expected, the SUV follows the Mercedes CLA and features a hi-tech interior with plenty of lighting elements and huge screens.

What is known

GLB and CLA are built on the same MMA platform. Mercedes calls the wall of screens covering the entire front panel of the cabin the MBUX Superscreen. In the CLA, it consists of a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central touchscreen, and another 14-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. In the new GLB, these screens should be the same.

However, the Superscreen system will be included as standard only in the most expensive versions of the GLB, and for some others, it is available as an additional option. Cars without it will have the same front panel design, but with a textured insert in place of the passenger screen.

Beside the screens, there are turbine-shaped air vents, and under the main touchscreen is a "floating" central console with several physical buttons, a smartphone slot (wireless charging panel will be optional), and of course, cup holders. There is also a spacious open area at the bottom for storing small items.

However, if in the CLA the steering wheel is equipped only with touch panels, the GLB is equipped with physical controls for volume settings and cruise control.

Like the current model, the new GLB will be offered with five or seven seats to choose from, and the second row of seats can be moved forward when drivers need more luggage space.

However, Mercedes claims that the new model will have more space. In particular, thanks to the SUV's high roof and standard panoramic glass roof, headroom for second-row passengers has increased, as has legroom. It is also claimed that access to the third row in the seven-seat versions of the new GLB will become easier.

Even in fresh photos of the new GLB, covered in ice after tests in extremely cold weather, it becomes clear that Mercedes has not significantly changed the angular design of the SUV. The hybrid and electric versions of the new GLB will look almost identical, with the only visual difference likely being a solid grille at the front of the electric vehicle.

The world premiere of the SUV will take place on December 8.
