Tesla Supercharger availability now displayed in Google Maps in real-time
Google has integrated Tesla's real-time Supercharger station availability data into its Maps. Google Maps users can view this information in the form of 'pills' on the location information tab.
What is known
Thanks to the new integration, users can see the charging device status in real-time directly in Google Maps, similar to how Tesla owners have long received such information in their cars or the Tesla app.
When searching for Supercharger in Maps, the total number of stations and the number of available devices at the moment are now displayed. This is the same information that Tesla provides through its navigation system, but now it is visible to any Google Maps user, whether or not they are a Tesla owner.
This may seem like a small change, but it is yet another sign that Tesla is gradually opening its once exclusive infrastructure to a broader range of users.
The company has already begun integrating third-party electric vehicles into its Supercharger network across North America through the deployment of its NACS charging connector.
This update is not particularly useful for Tesla owners, who already have this information in their onboard navigation and app. However, it is a different story for users of other brands' electric vehicles that have already gained access to the Tesla Supercharger network.
