The macOS 26.2 beta 2 update introduced the Edge Light feature, which simulates the use of ring lighting during video calls and is designed to improve video quality in low-light conditions.

What's known

Edge Light is a bright graphic effect that appears around the contour of the video chat and directs additional glow to the user. It works with all video conferencing applications on Mac, including FaceTime, WebEx, Zoom, and others. The feature can be set to activate automatically during video conferences or be turned on manually.

Edge Light can recognize the face, height, and position of a person in the frame, providing accurate lighting. Brightness settings, as well as portrait mode, studio light, reactions, and backgrounds, are available.

The Edge Light feature is supported on all Mac models with an Apple Silicon processor and on the Apple Studio Display when connected to a Mac. Additionally, it works with external cameras.
