Tesla is working on implementing Apple CarPlay support in its electric vehicles. As Bloomberg found out, citing informed sources, tests of the new feature have already begun within the company. The launch may occur in the coming months, but a final decision has not yet been made.

What is known

CarPlay displays an adapted version of iPhone software on the car screen, which greatly simplifies interaction with the gadget while driving. For Tesla, adding CarPlay could be a turning point: Elon Musk has ignored Tesla car owners' requests for the popular feature for years, criticizing Apple and not allowing its services into the Tesla ecosystem. Now the situation has changed: after Apple's abandonment of its own electric car project in 2024 and Tesla's weakening market position, the company is revising its cooperation approaches.

According to sources, in Tesla cars, the CarPlay interface will launch in a separate window and support wireless connectivity. However, Apple software will not be able to control Tesla's autopilot or navigation: these functions will require returning to the main interface.

Neither Tesla nor Apple have commented on the rumors so far.
