Amazon founder Jeff Bezos returns to active business as the co-leader of a new artificial intelligence startup called Project Prometheus. According to The New York Times, he has already raised $6.2 billion in investments.

What's known

Bezos will share the position with physicist and chemist Vic Bajaj. He previously worked at the Google X lab, was one of the co-founders of Verily, and also headed the Foresite Labs incubator. According to media reports, Bajaj recently left Foresite Labs to focus on the new project.

For Bezos, this is the first return since 2021, when he stepped down as head of Amazon.

Project Prometheus is working on creating AI-based products that will be used in industries, including computer technology, aviation, and automotive manufacturing. According to LinkedIn, the company is developing solutions in the field of "AI for the physical economy."

The company already employs about 100 people, including former specialists from Meta, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind. Amazon and Bajaj have not yet commented on this information.
