Google Adds Ads to AI Responses Based on Gemini
Google has launched public testing of ads in AI mode. AI-generated responses based on Gemini may now include ad links marked as "sponsored" content. This was reported by SEO consultant Brodie Clark.
What is known
A Google representative confirmed that ads in AI Mode are part of experiments that have been ongoing for several months. The company first announced its intention to launch ads in AI mode back in May 2025. At the same time, according to the representative, a full-fledged launch of ads for a wide range of users is not yet planned.
The time has come. Google is now showing ads within AI Mode for the first time ever.

Similar to the ads that I had originally spotted showing within AI overviews earlier this year, the placement is at the bottom of the response.
And as you can see, the ad results are labelled… pic.twitter.com/JZa7g8rS2N
Currently, the software prefers organic links, placing them above sponsored ones. In this context, artificial intelligence acts as a personal assistant, often presented in promotional materials.
Google is not the only company exploring monetization opportunities through AI. For example, the platform X (formerly Twitter) has also announced the launch of ads in AI responses, and OpenAI is rumored to be preparing its own advertising platform for ChatGPT.
