The German tuning studio Brabus presented two convertibles based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 — the Brabus 800 Cabrio and Brabus XL 800 Cabrio with increased ground clearance and a wider body. A total of only 50 examples of each version will be produced.

What is known

Both versions received a modified Brabus 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 800 hp and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm in the range of 3800–4400 rpm. The 800 Cabrio accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 240 km/h.

The XL version on 22-inch off-road tires reaches 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, with a maximum speed limited to 210 km/h. Fuel consumption according to the WLTP cycle is 20.1 l/100 km for the XL version and 14.8 l/100 km for the road version. Both models receive a stainless-steel sports exhaust system with side pipes.

Converting the closed SUV into a convertible required extensive engineering work. To confirm the structural strength, the cars underwent a vibration stand test with peak loads up to 7G, simulating more than 100,000 km of mileage, and a rollover test.

More than 500 new components have been developed for the folding roof. The roof opens and closes in 20 seconds, with the rear part of the fabric top automatically folding behind the rear seats. For long-term storage with the top open, a protective cover is provided.

The XL 800 Cabrio version received its own portal axles designed by Brabus, increasing ground clearance to 47.9 cm. The carbon body kit with new bumpers and massive arch extensions increased the overall width of the car to 2.10 meters.

The off-road monster is also equipped with a coil-over suspension developed with KW. Various shock absorber settings can be selected from the cabin. Additionally, transmission, steering, and driver assistance system parameters can be adjusted depending on operating conditions. Wheels measuring 9.5×22 inches are fitted with off-road tires sized 325/55 R22.

The more "road-going" G-Cabrio received wheels measuring 10J×24 inches at the front and 12J×24 inches at the rear, with Hankook Ventus S1 evo ZX tires sized 295/30 ZR24 and 355/25 ZR24, respectively. Thanks to the adjustable coil-over suspension, the lowering ranges from 20 to 40 mm.

Cost

The Brabus 800 Cabrio starts at a minimum of 906,185 euros. The version with portal axles and an impressive red interior will cost no less than 1,056,244 euros.
