Today at a major presentation, where Huawei introduced the foldable smartphone Mate X7, the flagship Mate 80 series and the Huawei unveiled the MateTV Max TV with a 110-inch screen, surround sound, and "only" $9000, the flagship tablet MatePad Edge was also announced, positioned as a competitor to the Apple iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro.

What's known

The Huawei MatePad Edge has a 14.2” OLED display with a resolution of 3120×2080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a brightness of up to 1000 nits. The screen occupies 94% of the front surface, with bezels measuring only 4.1 mm. For eye protection, it uses Cloud Clear Soft Light Screen technology with an anti-glare coating and TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 3.0 certification.

The device is powered by Kirin X90 or X90A chips, which were previously used in Huawei laptops. Compared to the MatePad Pro on the Kirin 9020, the performance of the new device has increased almost fourfold.

The tablet is equipped with an active cooling system, including two fans and two large vapor chambers, as well as a huge thin liquid cooling system with micropumps.

The MatePad Edge runs on HarmonyOS 5.1, optimized for switching between tablet and PC modes with a single gesture. Three usage scenarios are supported: as a tablet, as a display on a stand, and as a full-fledged laptop when connected to the Huawei Star Leap Floating Keyboard.

The 12,900 mAh battery supports 140W ultra-fast charging, allowing energy replenishment in just minutes. Additionally, the device weighs less than 800g, making it convenient to carry.

The MatePad Edge has a dual main camera with 50 and 8 MP sensors.

The price of the MatePad Edge starts at $845 (converted from yuan). The $1400 version includes not only a top configuration but also a stand with a keyboard and a Soft-Light screen.
