Pony.ai expands its fleet and prepares to enter new markets with Uber and Bolt

The Chinese company Pony.ai, specializing in autonomous transportation technologies, announced plans to triple its fleet of robotaxis by the end of 2026. Currently, its fleet consists of 961 vehicles, but by the end of 2025, the company plans to reach 1,000 units, and by the end of 2026, exceed 3,000.

What is known

Pony.ai announced its intentions during the presentation of financial results for the third quarter. The company is actively expanding its commercial operations, offering paid rides in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. The success of the model is confirmed by the revenue of $25.4 million for the third quarter, which is 72% higher than last year. At the same time, expenses remain high, with losses reaching $61.6 million, which is 46% more than the same period in 2024.

In addition to robotaxis, Pony.ai earned $10.2 million from autonomous trucks and $8.6 million from technology licensing. Despite the reduction of cash reserves to $587.7 million, the company is investing in a partnership with Toyota for the deployment of Gen-7, a new generation of autonomous vehicles.

Pony.ai also plans to enter markets in eight countries, including Qatar and Singapore, in collaboration with Uber and Bolt. Following the report, the company's shares rose by over 6% on Nasdaq.
