Opel released teasers of the updated Astra hatchback and wagon ahead of the official debut. The model will feature a sharper style with the signature Vizor grille at the front. The car is expected to be offered with diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains.

What is known

In 2021, the sixth-generation Astra (L) marked its debut as Opel's final break from the General Motors legacy, transitioning to the Stellantis platform. Four years later, the model is preparing for a mid-life update aimed at keeping it relevant to buyers and strengthening its position against the ever-expanding lineup of the German brand's crossovers.

The teasers indicate moderate stylistic upgrades with an emphasis on the front. The styling element known as the Opel Vizor features wider LED elements framing the Opel Blitz emblem. Together, these details form what the company calls the Opel Compass—a design signature that will appear on all future models.

There are also signs of enlarged air intakes in the bumper and an updated design of alloy wheels with three double spokes and a two-tone finish. The rear looks almost unchanged, though subtle bumper tweaks could improve proportions.

Apart from the traditional five-door hatchback, Opel confirmed that the update will also apply to the Astra Sports Tourer wagon.

The powertrain lineup is expected to follow the same structure as the updated Peugeot 308. This lineup includes a 1.5-liter turbo diesel with 129 hp (96 kW), a mild hybrid with a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine producing 143 hp (107 kW), a 1.6-liter plug-in hybrid with 192 hp (143 kW), and a fully electric version with 154 hp (115 kW).

Opel plans to reveal the full details of the updated Astra shortly. Once on the market, the model will face a competitive environment still led by the VW Golf, its Peugeot 308 sibling, as well as the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai i30.
