Audi returns physical controls to the steering wheels of its models
Audi is preparing a series of updates for the 2026 models: A5, A6, Q5, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron. It's not just about software refinements or safety system updates. The brand states that the changes will make some of the most popular models more enjoyable to drive.
What's known
The main transformations concern the interior. Like Volkswagen, Audi recognized that the touch buttons on the steering wheel were not liked by customers. Therefore, from 2026, all the models mentioned above will receive an updated steering wheel with two physical scroll wheels. These wheels will restore the tactile precision that was lacking with the touch elements.

Buyers of the S5 and S6 e-tron will appreciate the addition of the Dynamic Plus mode. Audi promises that it will fully reveal the dynamics of both models, allowing controlled rear axle drift despite the advanced quattro all-wheel drive system and brake force distribution system.
For all models on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, the regenerative braking system has been refined. Drivers will be able to use a full one-pedal mode, smoothly stopping the car without the use of friction brakes.
Audi is also introducing a more advanced version of the driver assistance system on PPE and PPC platform models. From next year, these cars will have the autonomous lane-changing function: the driver just needs to turn on the indicator, and the car will change lanes on its own.
There will also be a trained parking function, capable of autonomously traveling up to 200 meters on private property, repeating a saved route to or from a parking spot.
Moreover, starting next year, the new A6 will receive digital matrix LED headlights and digital OLED taillights with customizable light signatures.

Some models will be able to be equipped with a built-in dashcam mounted at the base of the rear-view mirror. The 4K camera records video both while driving and while parked—an integrated alternative to third-party solutions.
Audi has also added several mood scenarios, or "worlds of impressions," to the cabin, regulating interior lighting, sound, climate control, and massage functions. The onboard gaming system has also been updated—controllers can now be connected via Bluetooth.
