Named the assumed price of the compact PC Steam Machine - more than desired, but less than it could be
Two weeks ago Big Announcement from Valve: The Company Introduced Three New Devices — the Stationary Console Steam Machine, Steam Controller 2, and VR Headset Steam Frame, but has not yet disclosed the price of the device, limiting itself to the statement that it will be at the level of the average price of a PC with similar specifications.
Based on this information, the authors of the popular channel Linus Tech Tips assembled a PC equivalent to the Steam Machine in specifications and estimated the approximate price of Valve's upcoming novelty.
What is known
Let's recall that the Steam Machine is stated to have the following specifications:
- processor: six-core AMD Zen 4 up to 4.8 GHz;
- graphics: AMD RDNA3 with 28 compute units;
- RAM: 16 GB DDR5 + 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM.
The Linus Tech Tips team stated that the average price of a computer with such components is $700. Therefore, potential buyers of the Steam Machine should expect around this price, as selling the console significantly more expensive would not be allowed by Valve, but cheaper would be economically unprofitable.
At the same time, with scaling production, the platform may become slightly cheaper, but it should not be expected that the figure will decrease significantly. However, considering the shortage in the global RAM market, price changes upward cannot be ruled out.
In any case, without the announcement of the official price, all analytics are only guesses, although quite well-founded.
