Exactly two years have passed since the launch of the futuristic Tesla Cybertruck pickup, which Elon Musk
actively promoted as a fresh take on the American work vehicle.

Experts repeatedly pointed out the failure of the Cybertruck, but now the “anniversary” sales analysis clearly shows how far the loud claims are from reality.

What is known

Analysts from Cox Automotive calculated that in 2024, Tesla sold less than 39,000 Cybertrucks, significantly below the company's final goal of 250,000 vehicles per year. As of October 2025, Tesla delivered only 17,317 vehicles, which is 42% less than during the same period in 2024.

Consequently, in two years, less than 60 thousand Cybertrucks were sold, although the company initially planned to sell four times more in just one year.

Let's recall, in 2021, Musk told investors that the company had received over 1 million pre-orders for the Cybertruck, but it is now clear that this figure was, to say the least, greatly exaggerated.

The main reasons for the electric pickup's failure are cited as:

  • delays in the start of sales — instead of the planned 2021, the vehicle was released in 2023;
  • a huge number of quality complaints, causing various batches of Cybertrucks to be recalled from sale at least ten times;
  • a substantial increase in cost — from the originally stated $39,900 to $69,900 in the base configuration;
  • the pickup is not intended for performing work tasks in real life and is more needed to demonstrate wealth, while average Americans prefer ordinary gasoline/diesel pickups, which are much cheaper.

It is also worth noting Poll that will upset Musk: 67% of Americans would not consider buying Tesla, which led to a significant drop in Tesla electric vehicle sales in the USA, Canada, and several European countries.
