More than 29,000 hybrid Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair are being recalled again after the December 2024 recall due to battery issues.

What's known

The recall affects 2020-2024 hybrid Ford Escape and 2021-2024 plug-in hybrid Lincoln Corsair. The high-voltage battery cells in these vehicles are prone to short circuits that can cause fires.

Ford hybrid owners are advised to use only the "Auto EV" mode and limit the maximum battery charge until the vehicles are repaired.

As part of the previous recall due to a similar issue, dealers updated the battery management module software with a function for detecting power cell anomalies. In case of abnormal operation, a warning appears, and battery charging stops. However, Ford later determined that the problem did not disappear from this.

As of November 5, Ford was aware of seven thermal venting incidents from battery cells in vehicles previously repaired, but all incidents occurred on Ford Kuga Hybrid crossovers in Europe.

No new method of correcting the defect has been announced yet.
