The first announcement of the G-Class open-top SUV was back in September 2025. Now Mercedes-Benz has shared several photos of the prototypes being tested in Austria and promised to conduct intensive winter tests in Sweden later.

What is known

The convertible is based on the current generation of the G-Class, and that’s where the details about the car end. However, it can be assumed that this open-top SUV will be presented under the Mercedes-Maybach brand.

Incidentally, there was already an official convertible in the G-Class history. At the 87th Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, Mercedes presented the Maybach G 650 Landaulet. This luxurious vehicle, 5.35 meters in length, was built on the G 500 4×4² platform but with a G 65 AMG engine delivering 463 kW (630 hp).

With such a powerful powertrain, the 3.3-ton Landaulet accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under six seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h.

Production was limited to 99 units. Sales began in September 2017 at a starting price of 749,700 euros.
