It has long been known that Toyota is secretly working on a sports car to compete with the Mercedes-AMG GT and participate in GT3 races. After countless teasers and speculations, the car everyone was waiting for has finally arrived: the road-going GR GT and its racing counterpart GR GT3.

What is known

The GR GT is built on a specially designed aluminum frame and uses carbon fiber parts throughout the body. Toyota has not confirmed all of the car's specifications, but stated that it will weigh 1750 kg "or less" and have a weight distribution of 45:55.

The car length is 4820 mm, width 2000 mm, height 1195 mm, and wheelbase is 2725 mm.

Rumors of GR GT receiving a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine have proven true. This engine features a dry sump lubrication system and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission specifically designed for this car. The drive is exclusively rear-wheel.

Speaking of power, Toyota claims that the GR GT will produce 641 hp "or more" and 850 Nm of torque "or more". It remains to be seen what the exact power output will be, but it's known that the V8 is complemented by an electric motor, so the response should be excellent.

The GR GT has a squat profile with a huge hood and thin headlights. It looks noticeably more aggressive than some competitors, undoubtedly due to its racing roots. The car sits on 20-inch wheels with 265/35 tires at the front and 325/30 at the rear.

Carbon-ceramic brakes are installed front and rear. Also, there is a double-wishbone suspension at all four corners. Dynamic characteristics? Toyota did not disclose them, but stated that the top speed will be 320 km/h or more.

The interior, with a combination of red leather and Alcantara, also doesn’t resemble any other Toyota product. The digital dashboard features original graphics, the new steering wheel is adorned with GR branding, paddle shifters are located behind it, and a large infotainment display is to the right.

Toyota notes that the GR GT and GR GT3 are still under development, meaning final details could change before production begins. Pricing remains a mystery for now, but deliveries are expected in 2027.
