Meta announced the acquisition of the startup Limitless, which was previously known as Rewind. The company specialized in developing AI-based pendant-like devices that record user conversations. After the deal, Limitless ceases selling gadgets but promises to support existing customers for another year. Paying users are automatically switched to the free Unlimited plan.

What is known

Besides the device, the company is also discontinuing support for the Rewind software, which recorded computer activity and created an intelligent search archive from it. Limitless was founded by Brett Bejcek and Dan Siroker, the former CEO of Optimizely. A year ago, the startup shifted direction and introduced the $100 Limitless Pendant—a microphone-like device that could be worn around the neck or attached to clothing.

The company's statement noted that its vision aligns with Meta's—to provide everyone with a "personal super artificial intelligence," particularly through devices. Although Meta is currently focusing on smart glasses, such as Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, the Limitless team will join their efforts, likely to support existing products rather than creating new pendants.

According to Siroker, competition in the AI device market has significantly increased, making it difficult for small players to compete with giants like OpenAI and Meta.
