Spotify launches the "Prompted Playlist" feature, giving users more control over recommendation algorithms
Spotify is launching a beta feature "Prompted Playlist" that allows users to create music collections based on their own prompts. The novelty will start on December 11 in New Zealand and will allow creating personalized playlists using text prompts that users enter themselves.
What's Known
The feature takes into account not only current preferences but the entire listening history from day one, Spotify emphasizes. Users will have access to a special field for entering a request, where they can specify what kind of music they want to hear and what the logic of the song selection should be.
The interface also offers an "Ideas" tab with inspiration for those who don't know how to formulate a request. Another option is automatically updating the playlist at a certain frequency and a short description under each song explaining why it was added. This can help users better understand the logic of the algorithm and adjust it in the future.

"Prompted Playlist" does not replace the existing signature Spotify playlists but will exist alongside other features. While Spotify has experimented with AI-based signature playlists earlier, the current focus is on deeper personalization and user control. For now, the feature is available in English only, but the service plans gradual expansion.
This Spotify approach resonates with trends on other platforms. For example, Meta is testing algorithm settings on Threads and Instagram, and TikTok allows resetting the "For You" feed.
