Now available on iOS: Call the Gemini AI assistant in the Chrome browser
Google announced the launch of Gemini integration in the Chrome browser for iPhone and iPad. Previously, this feature was only available on PC and Android, and now it is expanding to the Apple ecosystem, turning Chrome into a full-fledged tool for working with artificial intelligence.
What is known
Gemini is now built into the browser's address bar. The Google Lens icon has been replaced with a new Gemini symbol, which opens the "Page tools" menu. Users can choose between two options: "Search screen" (the previous Lens function) and "Ask Gemini" — initiating a dialogue with the AI assistant. The Lens feature itself remains available.
Capabilities of Gemini in Chrome for iOS:
- creating short reviews of web pages highlighting key facts;
- generating FAQs on the page's topic and similar sources;
- explaining complex materials in simple language;
- adapting content to user requests, such as modifying recipes or simplifying technical texts.
However, there are several limitations. On iOS, Gemini can only analyze the current tab, whereas on PC, up to ten tabs are available simultaneously. Updated Chrome version 143, English interface language set, and incognito mode turned off are required for operation.
Integration of Gemini in Chrome for iOS is a step by Google in competing with AI solutions from OpenAI and Apple, aimed at keeping the audience within the company's ecosystem.
For now, the feature is only available to users in the USA over 18 years old.
