Ayaneo introduced Pocket Play — a stylish gaming smartphone-slider
Ayaneo, known for its portable consoles, presented Pocket Play — the first gaming smartphone-slider with a full-fledged gamepad. The novelty is inspired by the legendary Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (2011) but comes with a modern design and powerful capabilities.
Move over! Portable console manufacturer Ayaneo announced the first "truly gamer" smartphone, but at that time, apart from the statement that “this will be the first smartphone truly made for gamers,” nothing was announced. Well, now we know more.
What is known
The main feature of Pocket Play is the slider form factor. Beneath the screen lies a full-fledged physical controller: D-pad, ABXY buttons, “Start” and “Select,” triggers on the edges of the housing, as well as two touchpads, which can be used as analog sticks or standard panels. This approach turns the gadget into a smartphone-turned-portable console hybrid (with a retro focus), geared towards mobile gaming and emulation of classic consoles.
Unfortunately, Ayaneo again did not disclose the technical details, limiting themselves to illustrations and videos, but it is evident that the device runs on Android, is equipped with a modern high-resolution display and a powerful chipset capable of running both mobile projects and retro games through emulators.
Sales of Ayaneo Pocket Play will first start in China, followed by a global release. The price is not disclosed yet.
