Fiat has confirmed that the compact electric car Topolino will hit the US market in 2026.

What is known

In Europe, the Topolino is classified as a quadricycle: it is closer to a golf cart or a light electric vehicle for resorts and closed areas than to a regular car. It does not require crash tests according to the Euro NCAP standard, and in some countries and cities, it can even be driven without a driver's license.

In the US, the model is likely to be classified as a low-speed vehicle (LSV). Such cars are usually limited to speeds of 20–25 miles per hour, formally should not exceed 30 miles per hour, although sometimes local authorities allow speeds up to 45 miles per hour. The Topolino's maximum speed is 28 miles per hour, with a range of just under 50 miles on a battery charge of 5.5 kWh.

It is expected that the Topolino will be in demand where golf carts and similar equipment are already widely used, such as in gated communities and resort areas. Another option for the Italian brand is to launch the Topolino in those states where utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) are allowed on public roads, as they are not subject to stringent federal passive safety requirements.

Fiat has not yet disclosed sales details and prices, limiting itself to confirming that the electric car will appear in the US, with more details promised in the coming months.

In Europe, prices vary depending on the country and local incentives for electric cars. For example, in Italy, the starting price is 9,890 euros (about 11,615 US dollars) before subsidies.
