Authors of SOMA and Amnesia presented the ambitious thriller ONTOS, in which "reality shatters into pieces"
The creators of hit thrillers SOMA, Penumbra, and Amnesia from Frictional Games couldn't miss TGA 2025, as they have something to delight their fans with.
On the stage of the main gaming show of the year, they unveiled ONTOS — a sci-fi thriller in which "reality shatters into pieces".
What is known
Ontos takes place in the "Samsara" hotel, which is located on the ruins of a mining colony on the Moon. The main character, Aditi Amani, goes there at the request of her deceased father, who was a brilliant scientist and is now perceived as a prophet.
The man left a will asking his daughter to visit "Samsara" to find his legacy, but did not specify what it entails. It turns out that eerie experiments are conducted at the hotel beyond the boundaries of reason...
Frictional Games' creative director Thomas Grip noted that the new game is similar to SOMA in terms of storytelling and mechanics, but it tackles different themes and will be the studio's most ambitious game yet.
When to expect
Ontos is expected to be released in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
