AMD considers partnering with Samsung for 2nm chip manufacturing
AMD may consider Samsung's 2nm process for the production of future chips. This is reported by sources from South Korea. According to them, Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong plans to meet with AMD CEO Lisa Su to discuss potential partnership.
What is known
Samsung has already signed contracts with Apple and Tesla. Now AMD may join the list of potential clients. In the past, the company preferred other manufacturers due to concerns about production stability on Samsung's new processes.
Currently, AMD, according to unofficial information, is interested in Samsung's second-generation 2nm process, SF2P. This is an improved version that involves reducing power consumption, increasing performance, and a more compact die compared to the basic version.
The mass production launch of the SF2P process is scheduled for 2026. Another iteration called SF2P+ is expected in 2027. If negotiations between the companies are successful, an agreement could be signed as early as January.
