Last week, Activision essentially acknowledged the failure of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and promised not to release Black Ops and Modern Warfare subsequels two years in a row. Such a decision can only be welcomed, but a new leak indicates that the American developer has not learned from its other mistakes.

What is known

The last few Call of Duty shooters have actively used assets and maps from old parts of the series, which was justified by players' nostalgia, but in fact, it was done to save money and speed up development.

Insider TheGhostOfHope reported that Activision continues to reuse its developments and multiplayer Call of Duty 2026, which is likely to be called Modern Warfare 4, will become an “exact copy of Modern Warfare 2 (2022)”.

According to his data, gamers will be offered the same gameplay except for longer perk reload times and reduced penalties for aiming and sliding speed.

The poignancy of this message is added by the fact that Modern Warfare 2 (2022) is recognized as one of the worst games in the series, received terrible reviews from critics and gamers, and became the first clear signal that the franchise has reached a dead end and requires new solutions, while Call of Duty's annual release schedule does not even allow Activision's huge studios to stop, think, and offer gamers something unexpected and exciting.
