For the first time in history: Ukrainian Sub Sea Baby drones struck an enemy submarine — the hit was made in the port of Novorossiysk
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a unique special operation in the port of Novorossiysk (Russia), during which, for the first time in history, an underwater drone inflicted critical damage on a submarine.
What is known
SBU operators managed to guide the Sub Sea Baby underwater drones through the protective barriers covering the military port of Novorossiysk and exploded a 636.3 class “Varshavyanka” submarine (NATO classification — Kilo).
As a result of the explosion, the submarine sustained critical damage and was effectively put out of action.
On board the submarine were four launchers of “Kalibr” cruise missiles, which the enemy used to strike at Ukraine's territory, including civilian and energy infrastructure objects.
The cost of the “Varshavyanka” class submarine is about $400 million. This class of submarines is also known as “Black Hole” due to the ability of its hull to absorb sounds and remain barely noticeable to sonars.
This was a joint operation of the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU and the Naval Forces of Ukraine. As evidence, the SBU published a video of the submarine being hit.
