Hear the Rumble? — That's the Iron Curtain Closing: Russia Will Completely Block YouTube Within a Year
The Russian dictatorship continues to limit its citizens from sources of information alternative to official propaganda. The aggressor state has already blocked Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Discord, and Viber. Even the game Roblox, popular among young people, wasn't spared after it was accused of 'LGBT propaganda.'
YouTube, although significantly slowed down, remained one of the last free platforms not subject to Putin's regime control, but it will soon be completely blocked as well.
Russian media cite the deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on IT and communications, Andrey Svintsov, who stated that within half a year to a year, YouTube will be fully blocked in the country due to the alleged targeted actions against Russia and its citizens by the platform's management. Translation: the platform does not unblock the channels of Russian propagandists and does not return their monetization, but the main danger for the regime is the freedom of YouTube, which provides access to objective information.
Thus, VPN becomes the only way for Russians to glimpse the free world.
