Conflict Resolved: Chinese 'Horizon Clone' Removed from Steam and EGS — Sony and Tencent Settled Out of Court
An epic confrontation between Sony and Tencent, sparked by the Why do we need a Chinese copy of Horizon? Tencent Games subsidiary has announced Light of Motiram, which is very similar to Sony's game, has ended almost before it began.
Recall, Light of Motiram is an action game by the Chinese studio Polaris Quest, owned by Tencent. The game is an exact copy of the popular Horizon series, evident in visual design, setting, and many gameplay mechanics.
What is Known
PlayStation accused the Chinese of 'blatant cloning of Horizon' and in July of this year filed a lawsuit in federal court in California, alleging copyright infringement by Tencent.
The head of communications at Tencent Americas, Sean Durkin, stated that the parties resolved the conflict out of court and 'hope for cooperation in the future.'
At present, it is unknown what terms Tencent had to agree to, but the fact that the Light of Motiram pages have been removed from Steam and EGS speaks volumes about the resolution of the dispute, and a note appeared on SteamDB indicating that the app is no longer available in the store.
