Xiaomi Watch 5 Introduced — Flagship Smartwatch with Durable Sapphire Glass, New OS, eSIM Support, and EMG Sensor for the First Time
In addition to the photo flagship Xiaomi 17 Ultra, the Chinese giant also introduced a new generation of its flagship smartwatches.
What is Known
Xiaomi Watch 5 was shown to the public, featuring a 1.54” AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1500 nits and ultra-thin bezels only 2.6 mm wide. The screen is protected by synthetic sapphire glass with a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale — the maximum indicator for consumer watches. Customization options include straps made of fluoroelastomer, leather, and even titanium, printed on a 3D printer.
The Xiaomi Watch 5 is based on a dual-chip architecture: a performance Snapdragon W5 and an energy-efficient BES2800. This combination provides up to 6 days of active use and up to 18 days in power-saving mode. The watch supports the installation of third-party applications and runs on the new Super AIOS system.
The main innovation of Watch 5 is the electromyography sensor (EMG) — for the first time in Xiaomi devices. It allows reading muscle activity and using gestures to control Xiaomi ecosystem devices. It also features a heart rate sensor, SpO₂ measurement, and professional ECG recording.
Xiaomi offers two versions of Watch 5:
- standard for 2000 yuan ($285);
- with eSIM support (allows using the watch independently from a smartphone) for 2300 yuan ($325).
