Media: Samsung develops a universal GPU for use in a wide range of gadgets
Samsung is actively working to reduce its dependence on key partners and, as part of this strategy, is preparing to start producing another critical category of components for gadgets — graphics processors.
What is known
According to The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung is developing its own GPU, which will first be used in the Exynos 2800 chipsets (working title).
Currently, mid- and high-tier Exynos chips are equipped with Xclipse graphics cores based on AMD RDNA architecture, and switching to their own GPUs will allow Samsung not only to eliminate licensing restrictions and meet their own needs but also potentially become a supplier of graphics processors for other gadget manufacturers.
Journalists believe that Samsung's plan is to create a universal platform that can be used in the production of various categories of devices — from robots to smart glasses and AI chips.
