Luxeed V9 Minivan Will Feature a Unique Head Protection Airbag
The Luxeed V9 minivan, jointly developed by Huawei and Chery, will be the first production vehicle with airbags built directly into the seats, providing head protection. The new model will hit the Chinese market in the spring of 2026.
How It Works
The system receives data from the ADAS complex and pre-reclines the seatbacks to a safer position. The seats are equipped with built-in seat belts and an integrated airbag that activates at an early stage of a collision, reducing body movement inertia and decreasing load on the lumbar region of the spine.
The technology was first introduced by Yanfeng Automotive Interior Systems in 2023. Yanfeng is a supplier to Volkswagen, GM, Toyota, BMW, Stellantis, BYD, GAC, Geely, and other automakers.
Luxeed is a joint brand of Huawei and Chery, launched in 2023 under the HIMA alliance. The brand's lineup currently includes two models in BEV and EREV versions: the S7 sedan and the R7 crossover. According to China EV DataTracker, from January to November 2025, Luxeed delivered 81,391 vehicles. In 2026, the brand will expand its lineup with the flagship V9 minivan.
The Luxeed V9 is built on the modular Chery E0X (E0X-L) platform, which is also used in the Exlantix ET, Exlantix ES, and other Luxeed vehicles. The minivan will have an extended wheelbase and a body length of more than 5.3 meters.
It was previously reported that the V9 will feature a powertrain and lighting technology developed by Huawei, large screens for passengers, a built-in refrigerator, and a new lidar. The second row will have two independent "zero-gravity" seats. Other features include a power retractable tailgate with a soft close function.
The Luxeed V9 will receive an 800-volt architecture and Huawei Qiankun ADS dynamic management system. The model will be available in both a fully electric version and a range-extended version (EREV). Batteries for both modifications will be supplied by CATL.
