On December 26, it became known that the Samsung Exynos 2600 mobile processor received a GPU based on the AMD RDNA4 architecture. This is the first time a GPU with RDNA4 architecture has been used in the Exynos line.

What is known

The GPU has eight computing units, equivalent to 16 CUs, and operates at a frequency of 980 MHz. For comparison, the previous Xclipse 950 model in the Exynos 2500 had a frequency of 999 MHz.

Sources report that the performance of the new GPU is twice that of its predecessor, with a ray tracing increase of about 50 percent. This is already the fourth generation of MGFX architecture. Previously, Exynos 2200, 2400, and 2500 chips used MGFX2 and MGFX3, created in partnership with AMD.

In the case of Exynos 2600, Samsung independently developed the graphics for the first time, even though it is based on the RDNA4 architecture. It was adapted for mobile needs, considering energy efficiency and the limited space of smartphone bodies. It is expected that the next generation Exynos 2800 will receive a fully proprietary Samsung graphics architecture.
