Porsche will close its network of electric vehicle charging stations in China next year
Porsche plans to close its network of branded electric vehicle charging stations in China from March 2026. The decision will affect about 200 facilities.
What is known
According to local media, the German automaker intends to abandon its own charging points to focus on collaborating with external charging infrastructure operators. The stations will be removed from the map in the Porsche branded app. However, the company has not yet specified whether they will be dismantled or transferred to other networks.
As stated in a company memo reviewed by Yicai, Porsche regularly revises the role of its charging services. The document notes that the company takes into account changes in market conditions and customer habits when charging electric vehicles.
The closure of the charging network comes amid other measures to optimize Porsche's business in China. Previously, the company announced plans to reduce its dealership network to 100 locations by 2027, and in December 2024, it announced a reduction in Porsche China's staff by about a third. These decisions are being made amid declining sales in the Chinese market, which was previously the largest for the brand. The peak of sales occurred in 2021, when Porsche sold 95,671 vehicles in China.
Meanwhile, Porsche does not plan to leave the country. In October, the company opened its first major research and development center outside Europe in Shanghai. It became part of the "In China for China" strategy, under which the automaker intends to develop and adapt vehicles and software to meet the needs of local customers.
