Volkswagen has unveiled the interior of the new ID. Polo electric vehicle for the first time. The main news is the abundance of physical buttons and switches in the style of previous generation models.

What is known

Instead of the touch sliders and tactile panels used in the ID.3 and other recent Volkswagen electric vehicles, there are familiar buttons and switches. Including a separate ribbed volume knob and a classic layout of four window control buttons on the driver's side. The company has already confirmed that the same approach will be applied to other new and updated models.

The steering wheel also received physical buttons for controlling cruise control and the multimedia system. Volkswagen emphasizes that the priority was on convenience and intuitiveness, rather than experiments with touch elements that have been actively promoted in the industry in recent years.

A 10.25-inch instrument display is installed in front of the driver, replacing the screen on the steering column familiar from the ID.3. The updated software has a mode with graphics styled after the dashboard of classic Volkswagen Golf models from the 1980s. In the center of the cabin is a 13-inch touchscreen multimedia system, underneath which is a row of physical buttons for controlling climate control and hazard lights. A separate rotary knob is responsible for volume and track or radio station switching.

The interior widely uses soft fabric, which partially replaced hard plastic on the front panel, doors, and center console, making the cabin visually and tactilely warmer.

It is already known that the dimensions of the ID. Polo are close to the internal combustion engine version. The length of the model is 4053 mm, width is 1816 mm, height is 1530 mm, and the wheelbase is 2600 mm. The electric vehicle will be offered with three versions of the front electric motor with outputs of 116 hp (85 kW), 135 hp (99 kW), and 211 hp (155 kW). A more powerful GTI version with an output of 223 hp is planned for next year.

Buyers will be offered two types of batteries: a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 37 kWh and a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) block with 52 kWh. The more capacious battery provides a range of up to 450 km. Depending on the version, fast-charging power will range from 90 to 130 kW. The model is based on the updated Volkswagen MEB+ platform.

Volkswagen previously announced a starting price for the ID. Polo of €25,000 in Germany. However, as it became known later, primarily more expensive configurations will be available at the start of sales, and the actual starting price is likely to be closer to €30,000.
