Verge Introduced Production Motorcycle with Solid-State Batteries
Finnish company Verge Motorcycles announced the start of series production of an electric motorcycle with solid-state batteries. The updated version of the Verge TS Pro has been declared by the manufacturer as the first production model of its kind on the market. Deliveries are expected to begin in the coming months.
What is known
The Verge TS Pro received solid-state batteries developed in collaboration with technology company Donut Lab. They allow for a range increase of 300 km with just 10 minutes of charging. The base range of the model is about 350 km, and with the installation of an additional higher-capacity battery, it is about 595 km.
Developers note that solid-state batteries are designed for the entire lifespan of the motorcycle. For comparison, lithium-ion batteries usually withstand several thousand charging cycles before gradual degradation begins. The TS Pro design also uses a Donut 2.0 electric motor with a maximum torque of 1000 N·m. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.5 seconds.
Verge Motorcycles CEO Tuomo Lehtimäki stated that the introduction of solid-state batteries into production motorcycles was an important milestone for the company. According to him, the collaboration with Donut Lab and the long testing and verification of battery packs allowed this technology to be adapted for the updated version of the TS Pro.
Solid-state batteries use a solid electrolyte instead of liquid or gel. Verge representatives emphasize that this solution increases battery safety, as it reduces the risk of ignition.
