At CES 2026, Nvidia unveiled DLSS 4.5 — a major update to the RTX AI Super Resolution technology suite. The new version focuses on improving image quality and expanded frame generation capabilities while maintaining compatibility with all GeForce RTX graphics cards.

What is known

The main innovation is the second version of the transformer model Super Resolution. It is trained on an extended dataset and provides a cleaner and more stable picture, especially in dynamic scenes. Nvidia notes that the updated model eliminates doubling and trailing issues that were present in DLSS 4.0 during fast-moving objects.

The model requires more computing resources, but the FP8 acceleration on GeForce RTX 40 (Ada) and RTX 50 (Blackwell) series GPUs compensates for the load. Meanwhile, DLSS 4.5 remains compatible with all RTX graphics cards, including the 20th series (Turing generation).

Another important update is Dynamic Multi Frame Generation 6X. The technology can create up to five additional frames for one real frame, providing a sixfold increase in frame rate in supported games without significant loss of image quality.

The Dynamic MFG mode automatically adjusts the number of generated frames to the scene and load, which is especially important for games with ray tracing and high frame rates. Nvidia positions DLSS 4.5 as a solution for players striving for 4K/240 Hz and above.

At launch, DLSS 4.5 will be available in more than 400 games — including Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, as well as 007: First Light and Resident Evil Requiem, when they are released.

Nvidia also noted that DLSS 4.5 can be connected to games without native upscaling support.

Full launch of DLSS 4.5 will take place on January 13. Support for DLSS 4.5 is included in the GeForce Game Ready 591.74 driver, which is already available for download. In spring 2026, Nvidia will release a driver update to activate Dynamic MFG in games.

The company noted that most changes will be seen by owners of 40th and 50th series RTX, and the improved frame generation, which will launch in the spring, will be available only on the RTX 5000 series video cards.
