Mitsubishi and AT&T agree to implement 5G in vehicles

Mitsubishi Motors North America announced a partnership with AT&T;, under which the 2026 model year Outlander crossover will receive built-in 5G connectivity. According to the automaker, the new technology will provide support for over-the-air software updates, faster multimedia system operation, and navigation with real-time data.

What is known

Connection to the AT&T; network will allow Mitsubishi to remotely deliver software updates and security patches for the car's onboard systems. The automaker notes that in the future, 5G support will also appear in other models.

5G connectivity will be the foundation for the development of Mitsubishi Connected Car Services. The high data transfer speed will accelerate the deployment of new functions and increase the responsiveness of digital services for drivers. Mitsubishi emphasizes that 5G support was initially laid into the architecture of the new generation Outlander.

AT&T; emphasizes that 5G networks provide lower latency, increased bandwidth, and an expanded data transmission channel compared to previous communication standards. The company also claims extensive coverage of highways in the U.S. and calls itself one of the pioneers in the field of connected cars.
