Thor to Play Kratos: Amazon Reveals Lead Actor for God of War Series
Amazon's film division has revealed the lead actor for the series based on the iconic God of War franchise.
Fans had many theories, some of which were worrisome, but the choice of the actor should please most of the audience.
What is Known
The company announced that the role of the Spartan warrior Kratos, who finds himself in the lands of Norse gods, will be played by Ryan Hurst — star of the series "Sons of Anarchy" and the famous Steven Spielberg film "Saving Private Ryan".
Interestingly, Hurst was already involved with the God of War series — he voiced Thor in the 2022 game subtitled Ragnarök.
For Those Who Are Unaware
The series is being created in close collaboration between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Ronald D. Moore serves as the showrunner and executive producer, and the writing team includes:
- Matthew Graham ("Electric Dreams");
- Stephanie Shannon ("For All Mankind");
- Narendra K. Shankar ("The Expanse");
- Joe Menosky ("Star Trek: Discovery");
- Marc D. Bernardin ("The Continental");
- Tania Lotia ("The Witcher").
The director of the first two episodes is the showrunner of the successful series “Shōgun”, director of several episodes of “Westworld”, Fallout, and the series The Boys — Emmy award winner Frederick E.O. Toye.
The series is set to begin shooting in March 2026.
Viewers can expect a two-season series based on the plot of God of War (2018), centered on the relationship between the Greek God of War Kratos and his son Atreus, who must climb the highest mountain to scatter the ashes of the boy’s mother — Faye.
It is currently unknown when the God of War premiere will take place.
