W Social is launching in Europe — a new social platform based on trust and user verification. And without Musk
A launch is being prepared in Europe for W Social — a new social network created as a regulated and safe alternative to X. The project is developing amid the tightening of European norms to combat misinformation and the EU's drive for digital sovereignty.
Many users of the 'temporarily occupied' Twitter abandoned the platform after it was acquired by Elon Musk and he began actively using it to promote his own interests and Trump's political ideas. Threads and Bluesky partially X, and now Europe offers its alternative.
What is known
The creators of W Social are betting on full identity verification: each user must confirm themselves with a document and photo. According to the developers' plan, this will sharply reduce the number of bots, fake accounts, and anonymous influence campaigns, which in recent years have become a serious problem for the European information space.
The platform will operate on European servers and fully comply with GDPR requirements. User data is promised to be stored in a decentralized manner, emphasizing that control over information remains within the EU.
The project is supported by European business structures and experts, mainly from Sweden. The initiative is led by Anna Zeiter — a privacy specialist. According to her, the name W Social refers to the word We, and the two "V"s inside the logo symbolize Values and Verified.
The presentation of W Social took place at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where developers presented the platform as a new standard of transparency and trust in social networks.
Currently, access to W can be obtained through an invite system — open access to the social network is not yet provided.
