This game was terrible: Ubisoft canceled the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, complete at 99%!
A few days ago, there was unexpected news: the much-troubled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake canceled — Ubisoft made a radical decision.
Ubisoft surprised gamers with this decision, as some reputable insiders assured that the game would be released by mid-January.
French blogger xj0nathan, familiar with Ubisoft's internal matters, shed some light on the situation.
What is known
In its statement, the company immediately declared that the remake of The Sands of Time had great potential, but the final quality of the game did not meet Ubisoft's expectations.
According to information from xj0nathan, “did not meet” is an understatement. The game was in such a terrible state that, despite being 99% complete, it could not be released, as it would damage the already shaky reputation of the publisher.
The insider showed several screenshots of the updated appearance of the Prince of Persia, which, according to him, was modeled after an Indian actor, and already by the quality of the protagonist's model, one can conclude about the game's level.
Insider Tom Henderson added that although Ubisoft's quality control department saw no issues with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, all participants in internal testing openly stated that the game was terrible.
Recall, after Ubisoft's Indian division completely failed at updating Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, in 2023, the development of the remake was assigned to Ubisoft Montréal central office, who had to create the game from scratch because their colleagues' work left no room for success. Well, the end of this prolonged story showed that even the Canadian developers failed to reimagine the 2003 game.
