Google is actively experimenting with the design of its operating system and added the first blurring effects in Android 16, which not all users liked. But apparently, the criticism did not affect the company's aesthetic views, and in Android 17 there will be even more blur.

What is known

The 9to5 portal reported that in the next major annual Android update, Google will introduce additional blurring effects into the interface. It is assumed that in this way the company hopes to enliven the overall look of the interface and eliminate uniform backgrounds.

These conclusions were drawn by journalists after reviewing internal builds of Android 17 and noted that the blur will appear when adjusting the volume, switching modes, in the power menu, and other system interfaces. Volume adjustment will be accompanied by blurring of the open application interface.

Soon after the 9to5Google publication, the first screenshots from insiders appeared on the internet, showing what the blurred interface in Android 17 will look like.

It should be noted that Google's solution may be indirectly related to the introduction of the Liquid Glass style in iOS 26, which, in addition to transparency, also includes blur elements.
