Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 Truck — a long-haul tractor with hydrogen fuel cells. Small-scale production of the model will start at the plant in Wörth (Germany).

What is known

The truck operates on liquid hydrogen and is capable of traveling more than 1,000 km on a single fill-up. Two tanks hold up to 85 kg of hydrogen. Refueling according to the sLH2 standard, developed by Daimler Truck in collaboration with Linde, takes 10–15 minutes.

The basis of the power plant is the cellcentric BZA150 fuel cell. This is a dual-module system with a total power of 300 kW, created as part of a joint venture between Daimler Truck and Volvo Group. Meanwhile, the NextGenH2 Truck uses serial components from the battery-powered Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, including an integrated electric drive axle, ProCabin cab, and the latest safety systems.

The development and implementation of the project are supported by state funding of 226 million euros from the German Federal Ministry of Transport, as well as the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg.

The first 100 vehicles are planned to be delivered to customers by the end of 2026. Full-scale serial production of hydrogen trucks is expected to start in the early 2030s.
