Genesis unveiled the off-road concept X Skorpio with a power of 1100 hp.
Genesis presented the unusual concept X Skorpio, choosing one of the most extreme places on the planet for the premiere — the Rub' al Khali desert, also known as the 'Empty Quarter.' It is the largest continuous sand desert in the world, covering an area of about 650,000 square kilometers, spreading across Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, and Yemen. The Dakar Rally has also been held here in recent years, and this is precisely the association the new concept is aiming for.
Unlike most concepts in recent years, the X Skorpio is not an electric vehicle. It is powered by a V8 engine producing 1100 hp and 1150 Nm. Genesis does not disclose the origin of the engine, but it sounds more like trophy trucks participating in the Dakar Rally than road cars.
In construction, X Skorpio is very similar to such racing machines. The concept received 18-inch wheels with beadlocks, 40-inch off-road tires, and Brembo racing brakes. The specially tuned suspension significantly increases ground clearance — the car is designed for jumping from sand dunes and driving at high speed over rough terrain.
The body is made of lightweight carbon, Kevlar, and fiberglass. The panels closely enfold the tubular frame, and the expanded fenders provide a significant ramp angle. The roof air intake is stylized as a scorpion's sting.
The interior is designed in Genesis's characteristic premium style. The dashboard is leather-trimmed, and a large navigation display is installed in front of the passenger. Instruments and some controls are located directly on the steering wheel, and the center console with switches is complemented by Alcantara grab handles.
Genesis is known for often bringing its concepts to mass production, but the X Skorpio is unlikely to become a production model. Nevertheless, according to the brand's chief designer, Luc Donckerwolke, each concept is 'a signal of the possible and a glimpse into the future DNA of Genesis.'
Given that the brand is already preparing to debut in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), participating in the Dakar Rally in the future does not seem like fantasy. Genesis is expanding its presence in the Middle East, and success in one of the world's most prestigious off-road races could strengthen the brand's position in the region.
